Alcohol Treatment in Scottsdale 2.0 is a completely different approach to providing treatment. The Moderation Institute is paving the way and challenging the status quo.
Welcome to Alcohol Treatment 2.0 in Scottsdale. Unfortunately, it has been decades of no progress in alcohol treatment that plagues the field of addiction medicine. People struggling with drinking too much alcohol are the ones who have paid the price by not having an appropriate alcohol treatment option that either works well or is realistic.
Most people, in my experience, are willing to put up with a lot if they can attain the success they desire. But traditional alcohol programs have not offered the success people seek. Perhaps the biggest problem is that the vast majority of people with an alcohol use disorder never actually seek treatment. Mostly out of shame and embarrassment, they are reluctant. Another huge part, however, is the lack of desirable options that exist, especially in Scottsdale. People are not wanting or willing to go away for 30 days of treatment, they are not willing to take a week off of work to complete an outpatient program and they ultimately don't want to engage in anything that would disrupt their lives.
The core elements of this new generation of alcohol treatment are the following:
-Alcohol treatment that has a much higher success rate
-Alcohol Treatment that is based on science and evidence
-Makes an actual change in how your brain works to provide sustainable success
-Options that are more desirable and realistic for people which allows more people to get help
-Alcohol treatment that recognizes many people don't want to quit for the rest of their lives
-Offers an equally successful path for the many people wanting to moderate their drinking, rather than quitting
-Most of all, we pride ourselves on truly individualized and personalized pathways for each person
Higher Success Rates
What good is any treatment if it does not work? Historically, alcohol treatment has been largely considered to have a poor success rate. For some people, traditional 12-step programs have saved their lives, been greatly successful and would be a great option for many people. However, we felt that the success rate should be higher. The foundation of The Moderation Method is utilizing the scientific, evidenced-based Sinclair Method. This method was pioneered by a forward-thinking psychologist Dr. Sinclair who discovered the brain could be essentially re-wired or "trained" to lose interest in alcohol, just like it learned to love alcohol over time. Essentially, his premise--which turned out to be correct--is that alcohol use is largely a learned disorder.
The Sinclair Method alone has a success rate of 60-70%--which is completely unheard of--and roughly four times higher than any currently available alcohol treatment. For details of how The Sinclair Method works, go to How Sinclair Method Works.
Ultimately, The Sinclair Method is the first alcohol treatment in Scottsdale which uses a method that has scientific evidence, combined with psychological understanding of human behavior. This has led to a re-conceptualization of alcohol addiction. The Moderation Institute is leading the way by incorporating this already potent alcohol treatment method into an even more successful method. Creating a new standard is our goal.
Not only is The Moderation Method more successful than any other method available, but it is also more desirable, realistic and attainable. The reality is, the majority of people who need help with their alcohol use never seek help because the current options either do not work well, do not fit their lifestyle, are too time-intensive and overall, too undesirable. Alcohol Treatment 2.0 is a culmination of Dr. Yasinski's four years of experience in creating this program. We recognize that the vast majority of people who have an alcohol use problem don't necessarily want to give up drinking forever. They may not wish to give up drinking at all.
Realistically, many people have lifestyles, jobs, or other reasons that being able to drink is a necessary part of living their life. Until now, people with this desire had zero treatment options. They are told it is impossible. The Moderation Method makes it possible to take unhealthy drinking behavior and create a much healthier usage of alcohol. This is just one example of the way we meet the needs of people in a realistic fashion, rather than attempt to make them accept a reality that is simply not sustainable.
Another way we create a realistic and sustainable option, is by recognizing the majority of people are not necessarily ready to dive into the depths of their psyche. Most people won't necessarily succeed by intensive therapy from the beginning of alcohol treatment. Alcohol Treatment 2.0 which is now available here in Scottsdale, takes a different approach. We recognize the fact that almost everyone struggling with alcohol use needs help to make positive changes to their thoughts, emotions and behaviors. However, trying to fix everything at once becomes unproductive and thus we focus in on the core issue. We take the core issue, proceed to understand the origin of the issue, understand the implications of the issue and its role in alcohol use, and ultimately teach tangible methods to eliminate this issue. Once someone is back in control of their alcohol use, we offer incremental stages of alcohol treatment therapy after the initial program to fix as much or as little as one wants to address.
Finally, Alcohol Treatment 2.0 means individualization and flexibility. The Moderation Institute implements alcohol treatment that is completely personalized. Unfortunately, many programs advertise that they customize their treatment plans but the reality of virtually every big treatment program is that they provide the same content to people in a group setting. This means very little one-on-one face-time with a psychiatrist or therapist. Most would intuitively agree that a personalized approach is clearly superior. We finally make it actually happen.
In the end, no matter how great an alcohol treatment program is, people have to be able to logistically participate. Inpatient 30 day or 60 day programs, frankly, are not feasible for the vast majority of people. Intensive outpatient programs requiring all day commitment is not feasible for almost anyone who has a regular job. The Moderation approach to alcohol treatment implements the necessary amount of time commitment to realistically be successful, which is possible, by strategically utilizing one-on-one sessions specialized to your specific issues. Therefore, 10-12 sessions with a psychiatrist and therapist is 12 hours of one-on-one time with someone who is dedicated to treating your specific needs. We add flexible scheduling, and the time commitment is doable for anyone.
Alcohol Treatment 2.0 is the next generation of treatment that meets the demands of society and implements strategies based on science, evidence and data. All other fields of medicine have practiced this way for decades, yet addiction medicine has lagged behind.
Our mission is to offer the most successful type of alcohol treatment in Scottsdale. We want to reach every single person who wants help. We are excited to watch the success stories grow, and watch people succeed.
